What are goals?

Setting goals allows you to connect high-level goals at the organisational level with detailed objectives at the individual level using a flexible, tiered approach. You can set Goals for both teams and individuals on your Totara site.
Goal scales are a customisable set of levels representing levels of achievement of a particular goal. Goal scales enable you to define the criteria by which a goal can be measured. For example, a scale might have three values: 'Complete', 'In Progress', and 'Started'. Another scale may simply list if the goal was 'Achieved' or 'Not Achieved'.
Each group of goals, or goal framework, can have a different scale so that goals can be measured using a variety of ranges or values.
Goal frameworks are set up to hold the skills, knowledge, and behavioural goals you expect staff to achieve.
Goals may be grouped under different kinds of framework. For example, one framework could hold all industry national goal standards (taken from an industry body), while another framework could hold specific goals set up in-house.
Before you set up a goal framework you must have a goal scale set up.
Site Administrators can create and assign types of goals. If a goal is assigned a type, it inherits any custom fields that have been assigned to that type. This allows you to organise meta-data relating to your goals and only show the fields that each sort of goal needs.
The values of these custom fields will be displayed alongside the goal on the learner’s Appraisals > My Goals page as well.
