# Assign types to a position

Once you have [set up your position types](/18/docs/create-a-position-type), you can assign positions to them. You can set the type field when you create a position, or you can set it later by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Positions.*
2. Click **Manage positions**.
3. Click the name of the position framework you want to use.
4. Click the cog icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/cog.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T13%3A04%3A29Z&se=2026-11-07T14%3A04%3A29Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=oBxKGfd5uUIMLvVkEPTB6P0wl8L%2FkCCF18kGoUbrmok%3D)) in the **Actions** column for the position.
5. Select the type from the dropdown box (if no type is assigned already), or click **Change type** if a type is already assigned.
6. Click **Save changes**.
