# Enable portfolios

If you wish to use an external [portfolio](/18/docs/what-are-portfolios) system then you will first need to enable portfolios.

You can do this by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Configure features > Learn settings.*
2. Tick the **Enable portfolios** box.
3. Scroll down and click **Save changes**.

You can then configure which portfolios are available by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Plugins > Portfolios > Manage portfolios.*
2. *For each portfolio you want to enable, select either **Enabled and visible** or **Enabled but hidden** using the dropdown menus.*
3. *Configure each portfolio's settings, then click **Save changes**.*
4. *Repeat this process for each portfolio you want to enable.*

Once enabled, each separate portfolio plugin will have a **Settings** link.
