# Reclassify competencies

You can change the [competency type](/18/docs/create-a-competency-type) associated to a competency, this is referred to as reclassification. You can [bulk reclassify competencies](/18/docs/bulk-reclassify-competencies) or do it on an individual basis.

To reclassify a single competency, follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Competencies*.
2. Select the framework containing the competency you wish to reclassify.
3. Click the cog icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1641828303095.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T12%3A54%3A40Z&se=2026-11-07T13%3A54%3A40Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=K8uTSaJ1z0P1eyshOsbgTWomGxgIIj%2BfzW%2BT2oomT3A%3D)) next to the competency you wish to reclassify.
4. Click **Change type** alongside the **Type** settings.
5. Click **Choose** alongside the new type you wish to associate with the competency.
6. Click **Reclassify items**.
7. Remember to click **Save changes**.

The competency will now be reclassified and associated with your chosen competency type.
