# Add a recurring course

Recurring courses are a legacy content type for programs in Totara 19. If you want to add recurring courses to a program, go to *Quick-access menu > Configure features > Learn settings* and check the **Enable legacy program content** setting.

One way to set up a program is with a single [recurring course](/19/docs/what-are-recurring-courses) (and no other courses or competencies).

1. [Set up a program](/19/docs/create-a-program).
2. When it's time to [add content to the program](/19/docs/adding-program-content), select **Recurring course** from the **Add a new** dropdown menu and click **Add.**
3. **Browse** through the course categories or **Search** for a specific course.
4. Click on the name of the course to be added.
5. The selected course will be displayed at the top of the dialogue box.
6. Click **Ok** to complete the course selection or **Cancel** to exit.
7. Complete the [recurring course settings](/19/docs/recurring-course-set-settings).
8. Select **Save changes**.

For training programs that require more sophisticated learning paths and should be run within the same course environment each time, the [certifications](/19/docs/what-are-certifications) functionality should be employed.
