# Add an achievement path to a competency

[Achievement paths](/19/docs/what-are-achievement-paths) can be set up when you are [creating a competency](/19/docs/add-a-competency), or you can come back to the competency and add one at a later date. If you are adding the achievement path during creation, simply click the **Achievement paths** tab then follow from step 5 below, otherwise follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Competencies*.
2. Click the name of the competency framework containing the competency for which you wish to set an achievement path.
3. When the framework loads, click the name of the competency for which you want to set the path.
4. 5. From the **Add achievement path** dropdown menu select the path you want to add (see [Available achievement paths](/19/docs/available-competency-achievement-paths)).
6. Click **Apply changes** when you are done.
