# Adding quiz questions

When adding a quiz to a course (or editing an existing course), you can start adding quiz questions.

1. After saving your quiz activity settings, select **Edit quiz**. Alternatively you can navigate to **Edit quiz** under the **Quiz administration** menu.
2. Click **Add**.
3. Choose from:
  - **+ a new question**: Create a brand new question
  - **+ from a question bank**: Add an existing question from a selected [question bank](/19/docs/setting-up-question-banks)
  - **+ a random question**: Select a [question bank category](/19/docs/setting-up-question-banks) from which a randomly selected question will be added to the quiz
4. If you're creating a new question, select the [question type](/19/docs/quiz-question-types), then click **Add**.
5. Configure the question settings. There are a number of [settings that are common across question types](/19/docs/quiz-question-settings), but see [Quiz question types](/19/docs/quiz-question-types) for more information on specific types.
6. Configure the question feedback as required, then click **Save changes**.
7. After adding questions to a quiz and before any attempts have been made, you are able to preview, edit, move and delete each question as required.
  - Use the **Preview** icon (![Preview icon](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1637061420457.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T18%3A11%3A51Z&se=2026-11-01T19%3A11%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=M1TZtEJtngNDPdBwxqg9Oinjz3i1lz6Uwa8m%2Fszx3uM%3D))to review and test a question
  - Use the **Edit** icon (![Edit icon](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1637061420491.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T18%3A11%3A51Z&se=2026-11-01T19%3A11%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=M1TZtEJtngNDPdBwxqg9Oinjz3i1lz6Uwa8m%2Fszx3uM%3D)) to change or update the content of the question
  - Use the **Delete** icon (![Delete icon](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1637061420526.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T18%3A11%3A51Z&se=2026-11-01T19%3A11%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=M1TZtEJtngNDPdBwxqg9Oinjz3i1lz6Uwa8m%2Fszx3uM%3D))to remove a question, provided it is not being used in another quiz activity
  - Use the **Move to** icon (![Move icon](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1637061420560.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T18%3A11%3A51Z&se=2026-11-01T19%3A11%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=M1TZtEJtngNDPdBwxqg9Oinjz3i1lz6Uwa8m%2Fszx3uM%3D)) to reorder the questions in your quiz via drag and drop
  - Use the **Remove page break** icon (![Remove page break icon](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1637061420619.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T18%3A11%3A51Z&se=2026-11-01T19%3A11%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=M1TZtEJtngNDPdBwxqg9Oinjz3i1lz6Uwa8m%2Fszx3uM%3D)) to merge questions into one page
