You can do this using the manual [enrolment method](/19/docs/what-are-enrolment-methods). To assign a Learner, follow these steps: 1. Navigate to the course in which you want to enrol a Learner. 2. From the **Administration** block, go to *Course administration > Users > Enrolled users*. 3. Click **Enrol users** in the top-right or bottom-left corner. 4. From the **Assign roles** dropdown, choose the **Learner** role. 5. Select enrolment options as appropriate. 6. Browse or search for the user. 7. Click the **Enrol** button next to the user. The user will indent in the list and the enrol button will disappear, indicating that the user is enrolled. 8. When you have finished, click **Finish enrolling users**. The user will then appear in the list of enrolled users, and will no longer be available in the search list. ## Next steps - [Default roles](/19/docs/default-roles) - [Capability overview](/19/docs/capability-overview) - [Check system permissions](/19/docs/check-system-permissions) - [Manually enrol users](/19/docs/manually-enrol-users) Join the [Totara Community](https://totara.community/) for more resources to help you get the most out of Totara. © Copyright 2025 Totara Learning Solutions.
