# Assign roles within a category

You can assign roles to users at a category level to save time when applying roles. For example, you could assign one user the Trainer role in a specific category, and that user would be assigned the Trainer role for all courses within that category.

1. Go to *Quick-access menu >* *Courses and categories.*
2. Find the category in which you’d like to assign a role.
3. Click the cog icon (![Icon

4. Select the role you want to assign.
5. Select the user(s) from the **Potential users** in the right-hand column.
6. Select **Add.**

You can also achieve this by assigning roles to an audience that has been set up within a category.
