Check predicted notifications

Prev Next

Users with the totara/notification:auditnotifications capability in the system context can generate notification predictions. These predictions provide you with an idea of which notifications (using the centralised notifications system) will be sent out on a specific date. The predictions can also be used to send a copy of the notifications immediately.

To see notification predictions, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Quick-access menu > Notifications.
  2. Next to the Notification trigger for which you want to predict notifications, click the icon of three dots (three_dots(1)) and select View predictions.
  3. Click Add a date.
  4. Choose a date and click Add.
  5. Wait for the predictions to be generated. Refresh the page until the status changes from Pending to Generated.
  6. Click on a row in the table:
    • Clicking a Notification trigger title will show you the list of all predictions for that notification trigger.
    • Clicking a Target date will show you the list of all predictions for that notification trigger on that date.

To see more details about the notification that will be sent, click the notification name to navigate to the Notifications page where that notification has been set up. There you can see the Recipients, Subject and Body, etc.

To send a predicted notification, click the icon of three dots (three_dots(1)) and select Send now. After confirming, an automated background task will send the notification after a short time. Clicking the Send now button again will cause another notification to be queued, so it is best to wait for some time before trying to send the same notification again if it doesn't seem to be delivered. Notifications sent this way will be logged in the notification logs, just like normal notifications.

If a change is made to the source data (the data about the event that occurred or will occur) or to the notifications belonging to the notification trigger, then you can refresh the notification predictions in one of two ways:

  • From the Predicted notification dates list, click the icon of three dots (three_dots(1)) in a row in the table and click Refresh
  • If you are viewing the predictions relating to one specific notification trigger and target date, click the Refresh button on the right side of the page
