Follow these steps to create a new resource: 1. Go to **Your l****ibrary** in the main menu. 2. Click **Create new**, then select **Resource**. 3. Give the resource a title. 4. Add the resource content in the text editor, then click **Next**. 5. Select an option for the visibility of the resource: - **Hidden (only you)** - **Limited (only people and workspaces you share to)** - **Public (anyone can see and share this content)** 6. If you select **Hidden** or **Limited** then select an option for **Time to read**. 7. If you select **Public** you’ll need to assign [tags](/19/docs/what-are-tags) using the **Assign one or more tags** dropdown. 8. If you select **Public** or **Limited** you can choose who the resource is shared with using the **Share to specific people or workspaces** dropdown. Note that this setting is optional if set to **Public**. 9. Select **Done** to create the resource. Note that if you set a resource visibility setting within a workspace to **Public**, you will not be able to change the visibility at a later date. If you set the visibility to **Limited**, you will only be able to change it to **Public**, but once changed to public, the visibility cannot be reverted. If the playlist is set to **Hidden,** then you can freely change the availability as required. If you have [enabled resources in the catalogue](/19/docs/enable-totara-engage-content-in-the-catalogue), note that only resources set to **Public** will be displayed in the catalogue. ## Next steps - [Viewing resources](/19/docs/viewing-resources) - [Share a resource or playlist](/19/docs/share-a-resource-or-playlist) - [Create a playlist](/19/docs/create-a-playlist) - [Configure the recommendations engine settings](/19/docs/recommendations-engine-settings) ![Course badge](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/course-badge_playlists-and-resources.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T06%3A55%3A23Z&se=2026-11-06T07%3A55%3A23Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=UC9FmYgENbhJ623yQH%2FNdJT0bvkQYYgxiLTD%2BgxFoiw%3D) The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to using [playlists and resources](https://totara.community/mod/page/view.php?id=23452) in Totara.
