It is also possible to [upload users](/19/docs/upload-a-user) or connect to an external user database using [HR import](/19/docs/what-is-hr-import). To manually create a user account, follow these steps: 1. Go to *Quick-access menu >* *Users > Accounts*. 2. Click **Create user**. 3. Complete the compulsory fields (marked with an asterisk). 4. Select **Expand all** from the top-right-hand side of the page to view all available fields for the user profile. 5. Select **Save and view** to save the new user and go to their profile, or **Save and go back** to save the new user and return to the list of users. Note that enabling the **Generate password and notify user** setting when creating user accounts will cause an email to be sent to the users. ## [Embedded content](https://www.youtube.com/embed/6UIIWSRjFXg?&wmode=opaque&rel=0) ## Next steps - [Delete a user](/19/docs/delete-a-user) - [User settings](/19/docs/user-settings) ![Course badge](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/course-badge_creating-users-in-totara.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T12%3A53%3A52Z&se=2026-11-01T13%3A53%3A52Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=unP3DGTpHVMtWpOfL5PnSjvFCfrKojT5eGzUrcd1TFo%3D)The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to [Creating users](https://totara.community/course/view.php?id=533) in Totara.
