The Dropbox repository allows you to access your files from Dropbox on your Totara site.
Setting up the Dropbox repository
Follow these steps to enable and configure the Dropbox repository:
- Go to Quick-access menu > Plugins > Repositories > Manage repositories.
- Next to Dropbox, select Enabled and visible from the dropdown list.
- To configure the repository you will need to get a Dropbox API key and a Dropbox secret. Keep this tab/window open, and click the Dropbox developers link, then log in to your Dropbox account.
Configuring the app in Dropbox
- Click the Create app button (if you can't see the button, you may need to first select the Developers link at the bottom of the screen). Click to create a new app on the next screen.
- Select Dropbox API and Full dropbox, then give your app a name.
- Click Create app.
- Copy the Dropbox API key and Dropbox secret, then paste them into the corresponding settings in the Totara Dropbox configuration page.
- On the same page in Totara, copy the OAuth 2 Redirect URI and return to the Dropbox app configuration.
- Save your changes when you are done.
- Paste the URI into the Redirect URIs field and click Add.
- Select the Permissions tab.
- Set the following scopes:
- account_info.read
- files.metadata.read
- files.content.read
- sharing.read
- sharing.write
- Optionally select the Branding tab to add additional information and your organisation's logo.
Using the Dropbox repository
When uploading files, users with the repository/dropbox:view capability (by default this will be all authenticated users) will now see the Dropbox option in the file picker.
Users will need to log in to their Dropbox account, then select Allow.
