# Enable portfolios

If you wish to use an external [portfolio](/19/docs/what-are-portfolios) system then you will first need to enable portfolios.

You can do this by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Configure features > Learn settings.*
2. Tick the **Enable portfolios** box.
3. Scroll down and click **Save changes**.

You can then configure which portfolios are available by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Plugins > Portfolios > Manage portfolios.*
2. For each portfolio you want to enable, select either **Enabled and visible** or **Enabled but hidden** using the dropdown menus.
3. Configure each portfolio's settings, then click **Save changes**.
4. Repeat this process for each portfolio you want to enable.

Once enabled, each separate portfolio plugin will have a **Settings** link.
