Notifications screen
In the Totara Mobile app users can view a list of all in-app notifications by tapping the bell icon on the bottom navigation bar.
The Notifications screen shows a list of received notifications in chronological order. Each notification displays the title and when the notification was received.
Note that the Web message output type supports in-app notifications in addition to in-browser notifications.
Tapping a notification will show the notification's full content, including any text and a call to action if required. For notifications with a call to action, tapping the button will take the user to the appropriate place in the app, or open Totara in a web browser (or the webview) to complete the required action.
Push notifications
Push notifications are also displayed on the smartphone's lock screen, with notifications showing a snippet of the in-app message. Tapping a notification will open the notification in the app.
To send push notifications you will need to configure the Totara AirNotifier plugin on your site. You can find out more in the message outputs documentation. We also recommend that you test your push notifications to ensure that they are working as expected.
Push notifications cannot be sent to users who are not logged in. This is different from in-app notifications, which mirror those accessed via the bell icon on your desktop/browser version of Totara, and will be available in-app after logging in.
The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to using the Totara mobile app. Here you can learn more about how to configure and use your mobile app, see best practice, and give it a go yourself.
