# Move a competency

Within a [competency framework](/19/docs/create-a-competency-framework) you can reorder the competencies using the arrows, or you can move competencies between parent and child relationships.

To move a competency you need to change the 'parent' by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Competencies*.
2. Select the framework containing the competency.
3. Click the cog icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/cog.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-02T00%3A42%3A08Z&se=2026-11-02T01%3A42%3A08Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=qm2H%2BBOLFAwL8bu9vvjkU0PkQEZNS2DE59B99zw9nos%3D)) alongside the competency you wish to move.
4. Use the **P****arent** dropdown menu to select the new position (e.g. under another competency or **Top** to make the competency a parent).
5. Scroll to the bottom and click **Save changes**.
