Missing word questions are similar to drag and drop text questions, where Learners are required to choose the missing words from a dropdown menu. Dropdown lists are placed at different places in a sentence or paragraph, and the Learner selects the appropriate word(s).
To set up a select missing words quiz question, follow these steps:
- In the quiz activity, click Add, then select a new question.
- Select Select missing words, then click Add.
- Give the question a name.
- Enter the question content in the Question text field, with blank spaces signified by square brackets, e.g.
'The only non-interactive element in Totara quizzes is the [[4]] element.'
You would then set up the correct answer in the Choice 4 field. - Set the Default mark, i.e. how many marks the Learner will be awarded if they answer correctly.
- Enter each correct answer in the appropriate Choice fields, based on the numbers you included inside square brackets in the Question text field. You can then add additional incorrect answers to make the question more challenging. You can add more answers by clicking Blanks for 3 more choices.
- Optionally use the Group dropdowns to divide the answers into separate groups. Answers in the same group as the correct answer will be displayed for each field.
- Either enter feedback for correct, partially correct and incorrect answers in the Combined feedback section, or use the General feedback field.
- If required, configure the Multiple tries and Tags sections.
- Click Save changes.
