View a user's profile

Prev Next

As a Site Administrator or Site Manager you can view another user's profile by following these steps:

  1. Go to Quick-access menu > Users > Manage users (/admin/user.php).
  2. Search for and find the user.
  3. Click the user's name to view their profile.

Other users can view another user's profile by clicking on the user's name or profile picture in a course, resource, playlist, forum, etc.

The ability to view other users' profiles is controlled by the moodle/user:viewdetails and moodle/user:viewalldetails capabilities. However, in workspaces, user-generated content, or approval workflows, users will be able to see the user profile summary card and the User profile - Social block for other users, regardless of which capabilities are granted. You can optionally remove the ability to view profiles by disabling the Allow view profiles setting via Quick-access menu > Configure features > Engage settings (/admin/settings.php?section=advancedfeatures_engage). If you disable this setting, only users with the relevant capabilities will be able to view other users' profiles.

The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to Creating users in Totara. Here you can learn more on how to add users, manage their data, see best practice, and give it a go yourself.
