# What are recommendations?

Recommendations are personalised content suggestions designed to help you discover learning materials that are most relevant, useful, or interesting to you. Recommendations are grouped into AI-powered suggestions and smart, curated learning, which can be displayed using various content blocks.

### AI-powered recommendations

Interaction data, user details and content meta-data are fed into the recommendation engine to generate recommendations. The [**Recommended for you block**](/19/docs/adding-the-recommended-for-you-block-v191) includes content types that are personalised and recommended for the user i.e. **Courses** (default), **Micro-learning**, **Workspaces**, **Programs** and **Certifications** (that have self-enrolment enabled).

### Smart, curated learning

Recommendations are generated using both your individual interactions and patterns from the collective behaviour of all users. These are the [**Recently viewed block**](/19/docs/smart-curated-learning), [**Trending block**](/19/docs/smart-curated-learning), and related content for resources and playlists.

You can add the **Recommended for you block**, **Trending block** and **Recently viewed block** to various [**dashboards**](/19/docs/dashboards-and-front-page), [**user profile**](/19/docs/set-up-default-user-profile), and the [**Explore catalogue**](/19/docs/configure-the-catalogue).
