Featured links block settings


Article Summary

In addition to the standard or common block settings there are a number of configurable options specific to the Featured links block.

Block settings

The following settings are available when you create or edit the block itself (not the individual tiles).

Tile size

Sets the size of the tiles. Choose from:

  • Large
  • Medium
  • Small

Tile shape

Sets the shape of the tiles. Choose from:

  • Square
  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Full width
  • Full width (no page margins)

Manual ID

An ID that is applied to the block so it can be used by themes.

AlignmentSets how the block's links/tiles are aligned. Choose from:
  • Left
  • Centre
  • Right
  • Justified

Tile settings

You can configure the following settings for the tiles within a Featured links block. These settings are available regardless of which Tile type you choose, but a number of other settings will be available depending on the selected type.

Tile typeSelect the type of tile you want to use. Choose from:
  • Static tiles: Enable a single URL to be linked to an image or solid customisable background colour.
  • Gallery tiles: Enable a single URL to be linked to multiple images that are switched at the defined interval. The solid background colour will only be visible when an image with a transparent background is used.
  • Course tiles: Allows a link to a single course to be added to the tile. The course image (or default course image if a specific one is not set) will be used as the background.
  • Program tiles: You can select a program to link to. After you select this option you will see a button underneath to Select program. The program image (or default program image if a specific one is not set) will be used as the background.
  • Certification tiles: You can select a certification to link to. After you select this type you will see an option underneath to Select certification. The certification image (or default certification image if a specific one is not set) will be used as the background.

Position of the tileSet where in the tile order this tile will appear.-
Heading locationSelect where on the tile you want the Title and Description to be displayed. Choose from:
  • Top
  • Middle
  • Bottom

Background colourSelect a background colour for the tile.-

Static tile settings 

As well as the settings available for all tile types, if you select the Static tile type you can also configure the following settings.

URLs

URLs can be full names (e.g http://www.sitename.com) or local (for addresses on this Totara site). Local URLs should start with a slash ( / ) as this ensures the link will continue to work if the site's URL changes. When used, a local URL will have the site's web address added.

You can also leave the URL field blank in order to have an unlinked tile.

Image appearance

Choose how the image with appear inside the tile. Choose from:

  • Fill tile
  • Fit inside tile

Title

This is the title for the tile.

Description

You can optionally include a description.

Image

The images displayed will be square so it is recommended that you upload a square image. Some approximate sizes for images are: small 150x150px, medium 200x200px, large 350x350px. Accepted image types are .jpg, .png, .gif and .svg.

Alternative text

Provide alternative text for this image for users with screen readers, or if the image cannot be viewed for any reason.

Mandatory when no Title or Description is provided, otherwise optional but recommended.

Gallery tile settings 

As well as the settings available for all tile types, if you select the Gallery tile type you can also configure the following settings. See Edit featured links block gallery tile content for more information.

Choose from:

  • Fade
  • Slide

Choose from:

  • Random
  • Sequential

Controls

Select either:

  • Prev/Next: Arrows on side of tile
  • Position indicator: Dots at the bottom

Autoplay

Set whether the gallery tiles should automatically progress.

Repeat

When enabled the gallery will loop back to the first image and start again.

Pause on hover

When enabled the tile will stop moving when the user hovers over it.

Interval (seconds)

The time in seconds between the background image switching. An interval of 0 means no transitions. Values between 0 and 1 will be rounded up to 1.

Course tile settings 

As well as the settings available for all tile types, if you select the Course tile type you can also configure the following settings.

Course name

Click the Select course button to browse or search available courses to add.

Show progress

Tick this to also show course progress on the tile.

Program tile settings 

As well as the settings available for all tile types, if you select the Program tile type you can also configure the following settings.
