# Activate report restrictions

You can activate (or deactivate) [global report restrictions](/totara-20/docs/what-are-global-report-restrictions) to determine whether they take affect. To ensure your restrictions are applied they will need to be activated.

1. Go to *Quick-access menu* *> Reports > Report builder > Global report restrictions.*
2. Click the crossed-out eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_close.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T12%3A53%3A53Z&se=2026-11-01T13%3A53%3A53Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Hdp8uzgllcUCaGGdiC2djiT2ALj5Qv96dULEyG%2BW22Y%3D)) to activate a restriction.

By default these restrictions will now be active on all new reports that you create. While active, this will restrict access to reports based on the configuration of the restrictions.
