# Add a file to your private files area

Your private files area (if enabled by a Site Administrator) is a place in Totara where you can upload your own files.

To add a file to your private files area:

1. Go to *Profile > Administration > Manage my private files*.
2. Click the upward arrow icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/upload.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T05%3A40%3A54Z&se=2026-11-06T06%3A40%3A54Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=WGEtlOAqsZIlFq03G%2BOsRcfiXF%2BaZgGmDLulqgeGswc%3D)) to upload a file.
3. Click **Choose file**.
4. Browse for and select the file.
5. Click **Upload this file**.
6. Click the **Save changes** button.

Alternatively, at step 2 you can drag and drop a file onto the dotted area of the screen and then skip to step 6.

Uploaded files may be downloaded, renamed, moved or deleted by clicking the icon next to the file. After making any changes, remember to click the **Save changes** button.
