Allowing a site policy to be presented in a user's chosen language means that they have a better chance of understanding it. To add a site policy translation, follow these steps: 1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Security > Site policies > Manage policies****.*** 2. Click the name of the policy you wish to translate. 3. Click **View** in the **Translations** column alongside the version you wish to translate. 4. Select the language you wish to add from the **Add translation** dropdown list. 5. Complete the translation. 6. Click **Save**. Note that when creating a translation you will only be able to choose from the languages that have been activated on your site. Whilst creating the translation you will see a locked version of the original policy, which can help you in translating it correctly. You can edit (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/edit.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T07%3A05%3A42Z&se=2026-11-06T08%3A05%3A42Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=3oXfc1cPLH%2FwJAFGl%2F%2FrT9sl%2F%2BPG%2BJCNBid2GpZaK%2Fo%3D)) any language version (including the primary language), but in the translation screen you can only delete (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/thin_cross.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T07%3A05%3A42Z&se=2026-11-06T08%3A05%3A42Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=3oXfc1cPLH%2FwJAFGl%2F%2FrT9sl%2F%2BPG%2BJCNBid2GpZaK%2Fo%3D)) the translated versions (not the primary language version). When you are done you can click the **Back to all versions** link to publish this version. ## Next steps - [Site policy settings](/totara-20/docs/site-policy-settings) - [Install a language pack](/totara-20/docs/install-a-language-pack) - [What are site policies?](/totara-20/docs/what-are-site-policies) ![Course badge](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/course-badge_creating-users-in-totara.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T07%3A05%3A42Z&se=2026-11-06T08%3A05%3A42Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=3oXfc1cPLH%2FwJAFGl%2F%2FrT9sl%2F%2BPG%2BJCNBid2GpZaK%2Fo%3D) The Totara Academy has a whole course which is dedicated to [Creating users](https://totara.community/course/view.php?id=953) in Totara.
