# Archive skills

If you no longer wish for a skill to be active, but you also do not want to delete it, then you can instead archive it. If you are using Totara Perform you can do this via the [skill profile](/totara-20/docs/using-the-competency-profile).

To archive a skill, follow these steps:

1. Go to *Develop > Skills.*
2. Find the skill you wish to archive on your skill profile, and click it to open it.
3. Click the **Archive this skill** button, located under the skill status and above the skill scale.
4. Read the warning message and click **OK** to proceed.

The skill will now be archived.

You can view your archived skills by using the **Archived assignments** filter on the skill profile. You can then click an archive skill and on the page the skill details page click the **Archived assignments button.**
