# Assign a performance activity to an audience

After [creating a performance activity](/totara-20/docs/create-a-performance-activity-1) and adding your content, you are ready to assign the performance activity to users.

To assign the activity to a specific [audience](/totara-20/docs/what-is-an-audience), follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Activity management.*
2. Click the activity to which you wish to assign users.
3. Select the **Assignments** tab.
4. From the **Assign users** dropdown menu, select **Audience**.
5. Select the audience(s) using the tick box in front of the audience name(s).
6. Click **Add**.

The activity is automatically saved after adding assignments.

You can freely add or remove audiences once the activity is **Active** (i.e. [it has been activated](/totara-20/docs/activate-a-performance-activity-1)).

A user can only be assigned once, i.e. if they appear in multiple assigned audiences, they are still only assigned to a performance activity once.
