# Assign outcomes to a course

You can add or remove standard outcomes (those that have been [created by a Site Administrator](/totara-20/docs/set-up-grade-outcomes) at a site-level) from a course. If a standard outcome is available on a course then it will be possible to assign it to activities in the **Outcome** section of the settings.

Custom outcomes, those created within the course, cannot be removed from that course. You can delete them using the cross icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1634904512242.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-03T19%3A30%3A31Z&se=2026-11-03T20%3A30%3A31Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=aZHQjJIi7b1FJg%2B8GPDodNnwCLnWn9x%2BJ9FmXRW%2FqPo%3D)) provided they are not being used by any activities.

To add and remove grade outcomes:

1. In a course, click on **Outcomes** from the **Course administration menu**.
2. Select the outcomes you want to add and click **Add**.
3. Select any outcomes you wish to remove and click **Remove**.
