# Assign skill types to a competency

Once you have set up your skill types, you can associate skill items with them.

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Skills.*
2. Click the name of the skill framework you want to work in.
3. In the **Actions** column for the relevant skill click the cog icon ( ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-TLLN8I48.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T07%3A05%3A30Z&se=2026-11-06T08%3A05%3A30Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=y1w8DSCgmpKdB25GMSoSJvnWu%2FwBZDlVqLpAzmQBBb8%3D) ).
4. Alongside the **Type** setting click **Change type**.
5. Next to the type you wish to reclassify the item to click **Choose**.
6. Click **Re-classify items** to confirm your selection.
7. Click **Save changes** in the skill items settings.
