Basis theme settings

Article Summary

Basis is one of the in-built themes available in Totara. You can select which theme you want to use from the Theme selector page.

The Basis theme allows Site Administrators to customise key elements such as colours, logo and custom CSS through the user interface.

The theme_basis plugin and theme have been deprecated in Totara 13. We recommend you instead use the Ventura theme.

Customising the Basis theme

The Basis theme has a range of customisation options which allow Site Administrators to create permanent or temporary themes, each of which can be branded and use your organisation's colour palette.

Favicon

A favicon is a small icon that is displayed to the left of a website address within a browser. Select or upload the image file using the standard file picker to be used as the site's favicon. The icon must be *.ico format.

-

Logo

Select or upload the image file, using the standard file picker, to be used as the site's logo.

The image will not be resized on upload, so ensure your image file is the required size before adding to the site.

Logo alternative text

Select the text that is displayed when an image can't be viewed, for example by a screen reader.

-

Enable style overrides

Allow theme colour settings to override theme defaults.

You must have this option enabled for any changes you enter on the Basis custom settings page to be applied.

Text colour

This sets the colour of all text within the site including all navigation items which are not links and text entered in labels and page activities etc. The colour of text entered by users within the HTML editor can be changed from this default colour.

-

Link colour

This sets the colour of all links within the site, including editing icons, or navigation and menu items that link to new areas.

-

Visited link colour

This sets the colour of all links within the site (including editing icons, or navigation and menu items) that have previously been clicked/followed by the user. The visited status of a link can be reset by the user by clearing browser caches.

-

Button colour

This sets the colour for the background of buttons, such as the Save changes and Cancel buttons, throughout the system. Note that this won't change the text colour of the text within a button, which will remain white (#FFFFFF).

-

Background colour

This sets the background colour across the site. Items such as blocks, the top navigation bar, and the footer sit on top of this background, and will not inherit this colour.

-

Main content background colour

This sets the background colour of the main content area of the site, including settings pages, course pages and the central content block on site pages.

-

Secondary content background colour

This sets the colour for the background of the top navigation bar and footer.

-

Footnote

Whatever you add to this text area will be displayed in the footer across your Totara site.

-

Custom CSS

Any CSS you enter here will be added to every page, allowing you to easily customise this theme.
