# Changes to positions in Totara Skills

With [Totara Skills](/totara-20/docs/what-is-totara-skills), Totara's [position functionality](/totara-20/docs/what-are-positions) has been extended to help learners explore career possibilities within the organisation. These changes add new configuration options to position settings, introduce position groups for organising positions, and provide a dedicated panel for managing skills assigned to a position from within the position framework.

These enhancements allow Site Administrators to build a richer, more structured view of positions that learners can use to understand career pathways and the skills associated with each role.

| Change | Description | More information |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Totara Skills-specific position settings | New fields added to position settings to support Totara Skills functionality. | See the [Position settings](/totara-20/docs/position-settings) documentation for more information. |
| Position group | Assigns a position to a group used to organise career options when selecting an aspirational position in [career paths](/totara-20/docs/what-is-the-career-path-view). | Groups must first be created in the [Configure Totara Skills general settings](/totara-20/docs/configure-totara-skills-general-settings). |
| Position skills management panel | Displays skills assigned to a position and allows administrators to manage them directly from the position framework view. Available within the position framework interface. | See [Manage skills assigned to a position](/totara-20/docs/manage-skills-assigned-to-a-position) for more information. |
