# Configure HR import default settings

You can configure the default settings to be used by elements in [HR import](/totara-20/docs/what-is-hr-import). In HR import, elements are the different types of data that can be uploaded for each user, such as their job assignments or positions.

These settings can also be [customised for individual elements](/totara-20/docs/configure-hr-import-element-settings).

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > HR import > Default settings.*
2. Adjust the [settings](/totara-20/docs/hr-import-default-settings) as required.
3. Click **Save changes**.
