# Delete a position

If you no longer want or need a [position](/totara-20/docs/what-are-positions) then you may wish to delete it.

To delete a position, follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Positions.*
2. Click **Manage positions**.
3. Click the name of the position framework containing the position.
4. Click the cross icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/thin_cross.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T11%3A48%3A30Z&se=2026-11-01T12%3A48%3A30Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=5XDFBvgbJRy5TljiDjCb8gn1uEtu4dvJuMllX0mtRnE%3D)) in the **Actions** column for the position.
5. Click **Yes** on the confirmation screen.

When the position is deleted it will be removed from any users who had it assigned to them.
