# Delete a skill scale

If you decide you no longer require a [skill scale](/totara-20/docs/create-a-competency-scale) then you can delete it. You are not able to delete a skill scale that is currently in use.

Follow these steps to delete a scale:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Skills.*
2. Scroll to the bottom of the **Manage skills** page.
3. Find the skill scale you wish to delete.
4. Alongside it click the delete icon ( ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-4JSFB9FA.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T07%3A33%3A30Z&se=2026-11-06T08%3A33%3A30Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=2n%2FSCx8jg0mBXtEeGpq0orCqGNNzF%2Fj%2FA3c2cNbHtPg%3D) ) in the **Options** column.
