# Edit a file type

After you have [added a file type](/totara-20/docs/add-a-file-type) you may wish to edit it to change one or more of the [settings](/totara-20/docs/file-type-settings).

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Server > File types*.
2. Click the cog icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/cog.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T06%3A09%3A00Z&se=2026-11-06T07%3A09%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=dV2YlTnztdnmv3%2FTcqOAp6QxJFlLSgm6TAgrWsMJFxA%3D)) next to the file type you wish to edit.
3. Make your changes to the settings.
4. Click **Save changes**.
