Changes to notifications in Totara 17

On this page you can see the important updates to Totara's notification system that were introduced in Totara 17. You may also be interested to see what changed in Totara 16.

Multiple recipients

You can now select multiple recipients for an individual notification, instead of creating one notification for each recipient. This is much faster if you want all recipients to see the same notification content. When creating or editing a notification in the centralised notifications system, you can select all of the users you want to receive the notification using the Recipient setting.

Totara Perform notifications

In Totara 17 the centralised notifications system has been expanded to include performance activities. Existing sites that upgrade to Totara 17 will have all notifications that are enabled in Totara Perform migrated into the centralised notifications system, including any language preferences. For new sites built in Totara 17, all Totara Perform notifications are set up and delivered via the centralised notifications system.

Additionally, a new notification trigger has been added to notify activity participants when a specific participant has completed an activity. By defining which participants are notified when specific participants complete their part in an activity, Site Administrators can drive workflow participation. You can even configure a cascade of notifications, notifying a series of activity participants as each previous participant completes their respective section.
