Multiple choice quiz question

Article Summary

In a multiple choice question, learners are asked to identify the correct answer from a selection of possible options. Multi-choice questions can be configured with one or many correct answers, with a (positive or negative) score defined for each possible answer.

For questions with more than one correct answer, divide the full mark (100%) between each right answer.

If users are able to select multiple answers, you should give any incorrect answers a negative weighting - otherwise the user could select every answer and still score 100%. For example, say you had the following question: 'Which colours appear on the American flag?'. The three correct colours (red, white and blue) would each give the user 33.33% of the score. Any negative answers (e.g. yellow) should be given a weighting of -100%, so the user will receive a score of 0 if they select the wrong answer, even if they also selected the three correct options.

A multiple choice question with four items. The three correct items have a weighting of -33%, while the incorrect item has a weighting of -100%.
