# Enable site policies

Before you can create [site policies](/totara-20/docs/what-are-site-policies) you must first enable them by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Configure features > Shared services settings.*
2. Tick the box for **Enable site policy**.
3. Click **Save changes** (at the bottom of the page).
