# Enable visibility for emails in reports

It is possible to view email addresses in the [report builder](/totara-20/docs/what-are-reports), although the value **Email is private** may be displayed when viewing the **User's Email** column in a report.

To grant visibility of email addresses, you will need to ensure that visibility is enabled by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu >* *Users > Permissions > User policies*.
2. Check **Email address** for the **Show user identity** setting (this is normally enabled by default).
3. Click the **Save changes** button.

If you encounter problems with the visibility of the user email field, you may also need to check users' capabilities. More information is available on the [Viewing and filtering reports](/totara-20/docs/viewing-and-filtering-reports) page.
