Learner certification experience

Prev Next

Here we have provided an overview of the learner experience when accessing certifications. It describes how certification information is presented and how learners view their progress and requirements.

From a learner perspective, the certification page is organised around two views, accessed using tabs at the top of the page:

  • Progress

  • Requirements

Together, these views allow learners to understand their current status and what is required to complete the certification.

Progress tab

The Progress tab presents a structured view of the learner’s progress through the certification.

This tab will only show the learner their current path in progress, and will not show the next path until the next path’s window is open for recertification.

Certification status and progress

At the top of the Progress tab, learners see:

  • The certification path they are currently on

  • The Status progress indicator showing the overall completion percentage

  • The Due date for the certification

  • An option to Request an extension, if enabled within the certification settings

This section provides learners with immediate visibility of their overall status and remaining time.

Course sets

Below the Progress summary, the certification content is organised into course sets.

For each course set, learners see:

  • The course set name

  • A message indicating what courses, or many courses are to be completed, for example: All courses in this set must be completed.

  • An estimated time to complete the course set, if configured

Course sets are displayed in sequence, reflecting the order in which they must be completed.

Courses within a course set

Within each course set, courses are displayed as individual course cards. Each course card includes:

  • The course title

  • A course image, where available

  • A course-level progress indicator

  • A Launch course button

The progress indicator on each card reflects the learner’s completion status for that course. Learners can launch courses directly from the certification page.

Sequential progression

When there are multiple course sets, visual labels between sets indicate the requirements and order. These can include:

  • Then: Complete course 1 first, then course 2

  • And: Complete course 1 and course 2 in any order

  • Or: Complete either course 1 or course 2

Requirements tab

The Requirements tab provides learners with an overview of how the certification is structured over time and what is required to maintain it.

Rather than focusing on current progress, this view explains the certification lifecycle, including initial certification and any ongoing recertification cycles.

Certification structure and multi-year sequences

In the Requirements view, the certification is presented as a series of connected paths. These paths represent:

  • The initial certification

  • One or more recertification paths, where applicable

Each path includes a validity period, indicating how long the certification or recertification path remains valid once completed.

Recertification cycles

Where a certification includes recurring recertification, this is visually indicated in the Requirements view. Learners can see that, after completing the initial certification (i.e. LMA Award initial certification based on the example image below), they move into a repeating cycle of recertification paths dependant on the set up of the certification (i.e. LMA Award Stage 1 recertification and LMA Award Stage 2 recertification based on the example image below).

This helps learners understand:

  • The multi-year recertification sequence

  • When previously completed learning may need to be revisited

  • How certification status is maintained over time

Viewing certification paths

Each certification and recertification path can be selected to view more detailed information. From a learner perspective, this reinforces how individual stages relate to the overall certification requirements without focusing on course-level progress.

When the learner clicks on one of the paths, they can view the course set(s) and courses required to be completed for that path. The learner can return to the Requirements view by clicking Requirements in the top-left corner of the page.

Learners cannot launch courses from the Requirements tab when viewing the courses within paths. Courses can only be launched via the Progress tab.

Enrolment details

Learners can view their enrolment details within the certifications by clicking the three dots ( ) in the top-right corner of the certification page and selecting Enrolment details.

An Enrolment details pop-up will appear, detailing:

  • Date assigned

  • Due date

  • Whether the learner can withdraw from the certification (dependent on the configuration if self-enrolment has been enabled for the certification)

  • Your enrolments, which details how the learner has been enrolled (i.e. via audience membership, individually assigned or via self-enrolled)
