# Remove a file type

If you no longer want users to be able to use a certain [file type](/totara-20/docs/add-a-file-type) then you can remove it.

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Server > File types*.
2. Click the cross icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/thin_cross.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T05%3A58%3A49Z&se=2026-11-06T06%3A58%3A49Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=DPH89g3MXkQ1YSRqoH6zophBbI1KNSTQGsPW1buBtyw%3D)) next to the file type you wish to delete.
3. Click **Yes** to confirm.
