This is helpful in multi-lingual courses, as you can ensure that only the correct language is displayed to the learner. Follow these steps to restrict access based on preferred language: 1. Navigate to the course and select **Turn editing on**. 2. Click **Edit** next to the activity for which you want to restrict access. 3. Expand the **Restrict access** section and click **Add restriction**. 4. Select **User language**. 5. You can select whether the learner **must** or **must not** match the specified completion criteria. 6. Select the relevant language from the dropdown menu. 7. Finally, select **Save and display** or **Save and return to course** to confirm your selection. You can also click the **X** delete icon to cancel without saving. ![Restricting access based on users' preferred languages.](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-1634292771904.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T18%3A18%3A14Z&se=2026-10-29T19%3A18%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=eNsClTfkTTOE%2FNXQUS9r8Xi7gXH1fI537siptvOQRF8%3D) Join the [Totara Community](https://totara.community/) for more resources to help you get the most out of Totara. © Copyright 2025 Totara Learning Solutions.
