There maybe cases where Site Administrators or Course Creators come across common H5P errors, specifically:
- Validation errors related to missing H5P libraries
- Errors relating to a missing site UUID or Hub secret
Resolving H5P errors
Error: Validating H5P package failed: Missing main library @library
This error usually occurs when attempting to upload H5P content that relies on a content type library that is not currently installed on the site.
Causes
The most common cause is the absence of the required H5P library for the content type in use.
Resolutions
Try one of the following solutions:
Install the required content type via a course activity
- Go to any course.
- Add a new H5P activity.
- Select the content type matching the one used in the file you are attempting to upload.
- The system will prompt you to install the missing library if not already installed.
- Once installed, return to the original location and try the upload again.
Check for existing library updates
- Navigate to Quick-access menu > Plugins > Activity modules > H5P > H5P Libraries.
- Select the Update button (
) beside the relevant library.
- If active, click to update.
- If greyed out, the library is up to date.
Manually update through an activity
If an older version of a content type exists and cannot be updated directly:
- Add a new H5P activity in a course.
- Select the same content type as the file you wish to upload.
- If an Update available notice is shown, click it to update the content type and associated libraries.
- Retry the file upload afterward.
Error: Missing Site UUID or Hub Secret. Please check your Hub registration.
This is a known issue with the H5P framework and is not specific to Totara.
Explanation
The error may appear during testing or in development environments, and the error message would be shown on the H5P libraries page (Quick-access menu > Plugins > Activity modules > H5P > H5P libraries). It relates to the H5P Hub functionality, which requires a valid UUID and secret key.
Impact
- Does not affect learners – This error message is only visible to Site Administrators and Course Creators.
- No action required for most users – If content is functioning correctly otherwise, the warning can be safely ignored.
There have been multiple attempts to resolve this bug within H5P, but as of now, no long-term fix has been released by the H5P developers.
To resolve the error click on Update content type cache.
