# Add a featured links block to a dashboard

You can add a [**Featured links** block](/totara-20/docs/featured-links-block) to a dashboard (this differs from the methods used for adding it in other locations).

1. Go to *Quick-access menu >* *Appearance > Dashboards*.
2. [Create a new dashboard](/totara-20/docs/create-a-dashboard) or open an existing dashboard.
3. Turn **Blocks editing on**.
4. Select the plus icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/add_block.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T06%3A42%3A13Z&se=2026-11-06T07%3A42%3A13Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=J9lVyQQWDsegjlktXYzQwOQPu39tNQCnk5lFvCMVxEg%3D)) in the required block region and choose **Featured Links**.
5. Within the **Featured links** block, click the **Add Tile** button.
6. Configure the [settings](/totara-20/docs/featured-links-block-settings) to your preferences.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 required.
8. Click **Save changes**.

When adding content to a tile you can [add placeholders in the **Description** field](/totara-20/docs/featured-links-block-placeholders). This allows you to include information about the user viewing the block, such as their name or institution. You can do this either by typing the **[** key and selecting a placeholder from the list, or by entering the [placeholder syntax](/totara-20/docs/featured-links-block-placeholders).
