# Assign types to an organisation

Once you have [set up your organisation types](/totara-20/docs/create-an-organisation-type), you can assign organisation items to them. When you create an organisation you can set the type field, or you can assign a type to the organisation later by following these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Organisations.*
2. Click **Manage organisation**.
3. Click the name of the organisation framework.
4. Click the cog icon (![cog](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/cog.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T20%3A38%3A03Z&se=2026-10-29T21%3A38%3A03Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=DvCRHlSueAYZz2M%2FC%2B8skmoUAB7xkHMEUhcE%2FUuB%2Fxc%3D)) in the **Actions** column for the organisation item.
5. Select the type from the dropdown box (if no **Type** is assigned) or click **Change type** (if a type is already assigned).
6. Click **Save changes**.
