In this section you can find out about setting up [](https://help.totaralearning.com/display/TH14/Grade+scales)[grade scales](/totara-20/docs/set-up-grade-scales) and [advanced grading methods](/totara-20/docs/advanced-grading-methods). Additionally, there may be occasions when you need to [manually grade](/totara-20/docs/manually-grade-a-course) learners' work, such as amending a specific user's grade in extenuating circumstances. If you need to [import grades](/totara-20/docs/import-grades) from outside of your Totara site, you can do this using a CSV file, an XML file, or an Excel spreadsheet. You can also use [outcomes](/totara-20/docs/using-grade-outcomes) to grade learners' work against specific learning goals, rather than overall performance. ![Course badge](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/course-badge_grading-completion-and-certificates.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T06%3A17%3A21Z&se=2026-11-06T07%3A17%3A21Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=BbYZz2E1c02aLHKIUKRw5LKF6t3scja0XCSes6DAnTg%3D)The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to using [Grading, completion, and certificates](https://totara.community/course/view.php?id=646) in Totara Learn.
