# Disable a message output

If you wish to disable one of the [message output](/totara-20/docs/message-outputs) methods on your site then you can follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Plugins > Message outputs > Manage message outputs.*
2. Click the open eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_open.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T17%3A00%3A55Z&se=2026-11-01T18%3A00%3A55Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Tfz8yhbtk33WyIRW4E7oL75MqfB5fGz5b7J%2B3Y1757E%3D) ) alongside the method you want to disable.

Remember, the open eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_open.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T17%3A00%3A55Z&se=2026-11-01T18%3A00%3A55Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Tfz8yhbtk33WyIRW4E7oL75MqfB5fGz5b7J%2B3Y1757E%3D)) means the message out put is enabled, while the crossed-out eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_close.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T17%3A00%3A55Z&se=2026-11-01T18%3A00%3A55Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=Tfz8yhbtk33WyIRW4E7oL75MqfB5fGz5b7J%2B3Y1757E%3D) ) means it is disabled.
