# Edit a position type

Once you have [created a position type](/totara-20/docs/create-a-position-type) you may wish to make changes to it.

To edit a position type, follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Positions.*
2. Click **Manage types**.
3. Click the cog icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/cog.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T10%3A43%3A34Z&se=2026-11-01T11%3A43%3A34Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=U3uuR8AtQG1s4EOC4kgjMbgLhoywKDpnvuVBxErdkiI%3D)) in the **Actions** column for the position type you wish to edit.
4. Configure the [settings](/totara-20/docs/position-type-settings) as required.
5. Click **Save changes**.
