# Edit a site policy

If you wish to make changes to a [site policy](/totara-20/docs/what-are-site-policies) then you will only be able to edit the latest, unpublished version. If the policy has previously been [published](/totara-20/docs/publish-a-site-policy), you will first need to create a new version.

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Security > Site policies > Manage policies****.***
2. Click the name of the policy you wish to edit.
3. Click the pencil icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/edit.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-06T06%3A53%3A32Z&se=2026-11-06T07%3A53%3A32Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=SpHyD1p800sx9lQ2zAirKIj%2BBlhBRmSa15lCIKx1CDQ%3D)) to edit the policy version.
4. Make any desired changes.
5. Click **Save**.

You can also click the **Continue editing new version** button to make changes to settings.

Once you have saved your changes you can continue to edit the policy version until it is published.
