# Enable a message output

If you wish to enable one of the [message output](/totara-20/docs/message-outputs) methods on your site then you will first need to [ensure it is configured](/totara-20/docs/configure-message-output). After that you can follow these steps:

1. Go to *Quick-access menu > Plugins > Message outputs > Manage message outputs.*
2. Click the crossed-out eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_close.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A56%3A17Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A56%3A17Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=gG3%2BLGIYRwUdsq6E8xPNAAi3KrJCuHR0hNOLUnc8YOg%3D)) alongside the method you want to enable.

Remember, the open eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_open.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A56%3A17Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A56%3A17Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=gG3%2BLGIYRwUdsq6E8xPNAAi3KrJCuHR0hNOLUnc8YOg%3D)) means the message out put is enabled, the crossed-out eye icon (![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/eye_close.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-01T15%3A56%3A17Z&se=2026-11-01T16%3A56%3A17Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=gG3%2BLGIYRwUdsq6E8xPNAAi3KrJCuHR0hNOLUnc8YOg%3D) ) means it is disabled.
