For example, this could be due to performance issues, or prompted by a users experiencing issues. There are two main ways to investigate issues: - Using system logs - By creating reports using the log source ## Using system logs Site Administrators can set parameters to review logs showing actions taken on the system by going to *Quick-access menu > Server > Logs.* You can also view live logs, to see what is currently happening on the system, by going to *Quick-access menu > Server > Live logs.* Both of these logs give Site Administrators the ability to review actions from across the system. Site Administrators can also configure settings for the standard logs and manage any additional log store plugins via *Quick-access menu > Plugins > Logging*. If you are using Totara Learn then Trainers can access similar logs (on a course-only basis) from the **Administration** block on each course. You can also [create a custom log report](/totara-20/docs/create-a-custom-log-report) to report on exactly the details you want. ## Next steps - [](/totara-20/docs/core-log-stores)[Create a custom log report](/totara-20/docs/create-a-custom-log-report) - [Core log stores](/totara-20/docs/core-log-stores) - [Course reports](/totara-20/docs/course-reports) - [Create a user report](/totara-20/docs/create-a-user-report) - [Edit an embedded report](/totara-20/docs/edit-an-embedded-report) Join the [Totara Community](https://totara.community/) for more resources to help you get the most out of Totara. © Copyright 2026 Totara Learning Solutions.
