# Restrict access based on organisations

The organisation restriction allows you to restrict access based on whether a user is or is not part of a particular [organisation](/totara-20/docs/what-are-organisations) (they must be assigned to the position via their [job assignment](/totara-20/docs/what-are-job-assignments)).

1. Navigate to the course and select **Turn editing on**.
2. Click **Edit** next to the activity for which you want to restrict access.
3. Expand the **Restrict access** section and click **Add restriction**.
4. Select **Assigned to Organisation**.
5. You can select whether the learner **must** or **must not** match the specified completion criteria.
6. Select the relevant organisation from the dropdown menu.
7. Finally, select **Save and display** or **Save and return to course** to confirm your selection.

You can also click the **X** delete icon to cancel without saving.
